Cerro Toco Ascent

1. Do I need previous mountain experience?

It is not mandatory. Cerro Toco is considered low difficulty and is ideal as a first high-altitude summit. However, good physical condition is recommended.

2. What is the maximum altitude reached?

The summit is at 5,600 meters above sea level.

3. Is the altitude noticeable?

Yes, exceeding 5,000 m can cause altitude effects. It is recommended to do prior acclimatization tours in San Pedro before this ascent.

4. How long does the hike take?

The ascent takes approximately 2 to 3 hours, and the descent between 1 and 1.5 hours.

5. Are park entrance fees or permits included?

No additional entrance fee is required for this ascent.

6. What happens if I can’t reach the summit?

The guide will evaluate the group’s physical condition. Anyone unable to continue can safely descend accompanied.

7. What equipment is included?

Includes helmet, trekking poles, high-energy snack, medical oxygen, satellite communication, and WFR certified guides.

8. What clothing should I bring?

Layered clothing (thermal base layer, fleece, and jacket), high-cut trekking shoes, hat, gloves, sunscreen, sunglasses, and 2 liters of water.

9. What time do we return to San Pedro?

Estimated return is between 14:30 and 15:00.

10. What if the weather is not favorable?

Summit arrival will always depend on weather conditions. If unsafe, the tour may be rescheduled.
